Acne is one of the common
problems during puberty. Hormonal changes, stress and poor personal hygiene are
some of the usual causes of break outs. There are different types of acne
depending on its severity. Let us get to know them one by one.

Acne Vulgaris
This
is also known as “common acne”. It commonly appears on the face, chest,
shoulders and back. Severe acne vulgaris should be treated by a dermatologist;
mild ones may improve with over-the-counter treatments.

Comedones
Are
basic acne lesions. This can develop into bumps called blackheads and white
heads. Here, a hair follicle becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Some
products may trigger this like makeup. It’s advisable to choose those labeled
as “non-comedogenic”.
a. Black
Heads
These are comedones that are filled with
excess oil and dead skin cells. You can see them open at the surface of the
skin, and the reason why its color is black is because of the oil’s reaction to
air.
b. White
Heads
This happens when oil and dead skin cells
prevent clogged hair follicles from opening; the comedones will stay close at
the surface.
c. Papules
These are inflamed
comedones that usually form pink or red bumps. It may indicate moderate to
